We Timed 12 Slow-Rise Squishies: Rebound, Firmness & Feel, Tested

A slow-rise squishy being squeezed

Everyone says slow-rise squishies are 'satisfying' — but how slow is slow? We rigged a drop test, timed 12 designs and turned the results into a buyer's cheat-sheet.

Slow-rise squishies are the heart of the hobby, but "slow" is a range, not a single number. Firmness, size and cut all change the feel. To take the guesswork out, we ran a small, repeatable test on 12 representative designs from our warehouse.

How we tested

We kept it honest and reproducible so you can trust the relative ranking:

  • Rig. Each piece was compressed to ~40% of height, held for 3 seconds, released, and timed until it visually returned to ~90% shape.
  • Repeats. Three drops per piece, averaged. Room temperature 22 °C (foam rebounds slower when cold).
  • Sample. 12 designs spanning food, animal and character themes, including Toast and Strawberry Cream.
Caveat: these are sample-unit measurements on the units we happened to ship. Individual pieces vary by a second or two. Treat the table as a feel guide, not a spec sheet.

Reading the table: anything over ~7 seconds is the classic "melt" feel; 4–6 seconds is a balanced everyday squeeze; under 3 seconds starts to feel almost bouncy.

What it means for buyers

  1. Want maximum melt? Pick the softest food icons — a Toast style piece is the platonic ideal.
  2. Want an everyday desk squeeze? Medium (5–7 s) is the sweet spot and the most common feel in the shop.
  3. Want something chunky and substantial? Go firmer; animal pieces like Bunny tend firmer and hold their shape better in a bag.

Across the whole catalog, slow-rise food icons dominate — about 57% of our 168 designs are food or drink themed — so the melt feel is easy to find. Start with one soft and one medium and you will quickly learn your preference.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good rebound time for a slow-rise squishy?

For the classic melt feel, 7–10 seconds. For an everyday squeeze, 4–6 seconds. Under 3 seconds feels almost bouncy.

Do squishies rebound slower when cold?

Yes — foam stiffens in low temperatures, so the same piece rebounds slower in a cold room or winter.

Are firmer squishies more durable?

Generally yes; firmer PU-foam and silicone hold their shape better in bags, while very soft foam dents more easily if compressed long-term.
